As I get older, Valentine’s Day is more about what I do for myself and less about what I expect from others.
Yeah, I might go out to dinner. But I’m more likely to splurge on lingerie that I adore rather than lingerie that is designed to impress someone else. However, I’ve never been one to pass up a theme lingerie-dressing opportunity.
This Valentine's Day lingerie guide is full of things that aren’t necessarily simple gifts or generic red pieces. It's stuff I think is cute, thematic and could represent a beautiful act of self-appreciation or a sexy part of a romantic night at home. And whether you’re with someone or not this Valentine's Day, I think we can all agree that after the roller coaster of 2016 we can all use some time to relax in some fabulous lingerie.
1930s Red Velvet Pajamas by What Katie Did:
1930s Red Velvet Lounging Pyjamas Available in 2 Colors, Sizes 6-12 via What Katie DidI’m a sucker for velvet in all forms, so these vintage inspired pajamas are right up my alley (or at least would be if they came in my size). They’re not conventionally sexy, but they’re the kind of thing I’d splurge on for myself and use any excuse to wear.
Queen of Hearts Triangle Bralette by Hanky Panky:
Hanky Panky Queen of Hearts Bralette Available in Sizes XS-M via NordstromIf you do want something a bit more conventional, this triangle bra by Hanky Panky will probably work. I love that Hanky Panky pieces are comfortable and practical: if you’ve never tried them, they pretty much represent the gold standard in stretch lace in the industry. This piece is cute and thematic, but not so out there or pricey that you can’t wear it throughout the rest of the year.
Peek-A-Boo Balcony Bra by Scantilly by Curvy Kate:
Scantilly by Curvy Kate Peek-a-boo Balcony Bra Available in 3 Colors, Fitting Bands 30-38, UK Cups DD-HH via FigleavesI wasn’t super interested in Scantilly when the brand released, but I’ve become a huge fan now that I’ve gotten to try some locally at Trashy Diva. Their sets feel way more expensive than they are and genuinely risqué, even by core size standards. I love this beautiful violet set from the brand and would be tempted to pick it up if it was available locally.
Deauville Bra by Prima Donna in Ruby Gold:
Prima Donna Deauville Full Cup bra Available in 4 Colors, Fitting Bands 30-44, EU Cups C-J via Bare NecessitiesI know that not everyone believes in buying thematic lingerie for holidays, but I love this way this ruby gold version of the Deauville walks the fine line between fun and wearable. You can wear this bra to the office under a sweater and also on a romantic Valentine's Day date.
Paradis Short Gown by Sonata Rapalyte:
Formerly known as Sonata Lingerie, designer Sonata Rapalyte makes the most beautiful lace creations on the market. All can be bought in standard sizing or as custom sizes, which means this piece can work for anyone. I love the soft, elegant lace and the nearly candy pink color.
Kiera Bra by Bravissimo:
Keira Bra Available in Bands 28-38, Cups DD-H via BravissimoThis set also goes in the “practical yet sexy” category. I’m a huge fan of the Bravissimo half cup bras and own a bunch of them. They look great under clothing and incredibly sexy by themselves. This blush and black version will work under everything but is also an excellent choice for a Valentine's Day set.
Pomperoo Bed Jacket by Dottie’s Delights:
Pomperoo Bed Jacket Available in Sizes XXS-XXL via Dottie's DelightsDottie’s Delights has recently released a new collection in collaboration with Mosh, all based on classic Vargas pin-up illustrations. While you can pair this bed jacket with the matching playsuit and snood hair cover, it would also look incredible worn with your favorite little black dress for a night out.
Renoir Bralet by Kiss Me Deadly:
Renoir Bralet Available in S-XL via Kiss Me DeadlyThis limited edition bralette by Kiss Me Deadly has just enough retro style to be fun but works well as a modern lingerie set too. You can also go full vintage and pair it with the suspender belt and pin-up brief. If you want something a little more sleek and current, try it with the matching power-mesh panty girdle.
Rebelle Short Gown in Rouge by Evgenia:
Rouge Rebelle Short Gown Available in Sizes S-XL via EvgeniaThis gown is on my list of things I would buy if I won the lottery. It’s gorgeous and the perfect Valentine’s Day indulgence. The textural contrasts between the heart embroidered lace and the plush velvet keep it from being too sweet, while the cowl neck adds drama.
Fran Set in Scarlet by Adina Reay:
Fran Balcony Bra Available in 3 Colors, Fitting Bands 30-38, Cups DD-G via Adina ReayThis soft and sheer red set is extra glamorous, especially considering it goes up to 36G! It's hard to find fully sheer sets in this size range, which makes this one a standout.
Serena Rose Bra by Harlow & Fox:
Serena Rose Bra Available in Bands 30-38, Cups DD-G via Harlow & FoxHarlow & Fox have released a pretty new pink collection, which is both elegant and understated. The rose shade will probably be close to a flesh tone on some of us paler people, which means that this bra can probably double as a “nude” bra for some. I adore the detail that goes into these pieces, and this new collection is no exception.
Do you buy or expect to receive lingerie to celebrate Valentine's Day? Which of these pieces would you wear?
