About 18 months ago I discovered the wonder that is a silk slip. And since working from home, I’ve doubled down on my new found luxury loungewear obsession. And what better time to share it with you than today, National Relaxation Day!
Even if you’re limited to wearing it on weekends, a good loungewear piece is worth the investment. You get what you pay for as luxury loungewear is as comfortable as it is beautiful. Cheap, synthetic fibers such as polyester can get a bit sweaty after a while. That’s not great if you’re buying something to relax in all morning long, or to wear when it’s too hot for your usual clothes.
The loungewear designs below are luxurious not so much because of how they look (though there are some stunning designs here), but because of their fabric content. Everything here is made to feel beautiful against the skin, whether that’s the buttery-soft touch of cashmere or the slinky smoothness of silk satin. Treat yourself and experience comfort like you’ve never known before!
Premium Pajamas
‘Pajama dressing’ is a hot new trend, not that any of us need an excuse to stay in our PJs all day on occasion. Why wear regular clothes when you can be chic and comfy?
Coco Pajamas Available in Sizes 1-4 via Olivia Von HalleYou can’t beat a classic, button-through pajama for timeless elegance, and especially not when it’s crafted from the finest mulberry silk.
Silk Pajamas Available in Sizes XS-L via ASOSHere’s a more budget-friendly version that will inject a pop of color into your life. Who wouldn’t feel bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and ready for the day ahead while sipping their Sunday morning latte in this sunshine yellow ensemble?
Classic Cream Pajamas Available in Sizes XS-XL via Desmond & DempseyAnd one for those who prefer a shortie bottom. Cotton may seem like an everyday workhorse of fabric, but consider the difference between bargain-store bed sheets and Egyptian cotton ones. These pajamas are made from a premium cotton voile that’s slightly sheer, for a subtle sexiness.
Amelea Pajamas Available in Sizes S-L via Agent ProvocateurFor a more contemporary type of chic, I love this waist-defining cami and high-waisted bottoms set. The glossy silk satin blended with elastane makes for a stretchy, comfortable fit.
Odette Pajamas by Equipment Available in Sizes XS-L via Net-a-PorterOr, how about the snug coziness of velvet? If you thought regular polyester velvet was soft, just wait until you try a silk-blend one!
Sumptuous Slips
Warmer days call for skimpier loungewear and a looser fit, and the simple slip dress is the ideal solution. Like pajamas, slips have lately been crossing the line from bedroom-attire to day or evening wear. This makes them even more perfect for that not-quite-underwear, not-quite-outerwear niche that is loungewear.
Gabrielle Nightdress Available in US Sizes 6-22 via Sulis SilksThis beautiful bias cut nightgown creates a fluid fit. Plenty of freedom of movement as you recline on the sofa or chaise longue!
Leaves Chemise Available in Sizes S-L via Shanghai TangBrighten your day with a splash of vibrant color in this modern take on the slip dress, in fuchsia pink silk.
Corinne Nightgown Available in sizes Petite – XL via Boudoir by D’LishNot all silk is shiny! If you love its soft touch and breathability but want something a little less glossy, how about this floor-sweeping gown in a silk and modal jersey? Total Hollywood vibes!
Cosy Nightdress Available in sizes S-L via AmoralleThis sweet and sexy slip is made from cashmere-blend jersey, making it as comfortable as it is pretty.
Nightgown with Petal Sleeve Available in Sizes S-3X via Lily SilkOkay, this one’s not technically a slip, but if you prefer a nightdress with a little more coverage check out this loose and floaty, silk-satin number with silk-chiffon sleeves.
Relaxing Robes
If you only invest in one piece of loungewear, make it a robe. I practically live in mine! Not only is it the perfect way to wrap up cozily on those chilly mornings, but you can throw it on over anything (or nothing) to instantly look glamorous and feel more relaxed.
Mimosa Kimono by Carine Gilson Available in sizes S-M via Nancy MeyerThis extravagant silk kimono may be the most expensive item here, but gosh is it worth it!
Fabergé Robe Available in Sizes S-L via Christine LingerieA word of warning: cocoon yourself in this silk-blend velvet robe, and you may never want to come out! Softer, sleeker and less likely to make you sweat than polyester velvet, silk-blend velvet is the epitome of luxury lounging.
Windflower Robe Available in US Sizes 4-6 to 10-12 via La PerlaThis lightweight modal jersey is better suited to warm summer temperatures, with dashes of silk satin at the collar, and sash and hem to enhance the luxury.
Cosy Maxi Robe Available in Sizes S/M to M/L via AmoralleThe cashmere-blend jersey offers all the comfort of your favorite dressing gown and then some, while the silk sash and deep lace cuffs add a touch of decadence.
Lounger Robe Available in sizes XS-XL via ReclinerIf you can’t afford cashmere jersey (or a silk one), bamboo jersey offers many of the same benefits. It’s a soft, natural fabric that wicks away moisture to keep you cool as you kick back and put your feet up.
Are you a luxury loungewear aficionado? What’s your favorite fabric to laze around in at home?
