When I was little, my grandmother used to remind me to wear nice underwear in case there was an emergency, and someone else saw it.
While I’ve never had firemen or an EMT inspect my underwear, her advice did come to mind a few weeks ago. I awkwardly met one of my new neighbors wearing a sheer top vintage slip while wrangling a friendly pit bull with a medical cone over its head in my front garden. All of this is to say that beautiful and presentable full bust sleepwear is sometimes a life saver if only to help you negotiate potentially awkward situations that come up in your front yard.
Now that summer is here for real; there are lots of other reasons to restock on sleepwear as well. It’s hot, and sleepwear is cooler than real clothing. Weekend brunch is always better with cute pajamas. Most importantly, it’s sometimes helpful to break out of that t-shirt and shorts routine and try on something a little more glamorous.
While it can be hard to find full bust sleepwear, the selection has gotten a lot better in recent years. This list is a mix of my personal favorites and stuff that is on my “to try” list. Many of it comes in both plus and core sizing as well, so there should be something for everyone.
Stretch Lace Underwire Babydoll by Elila:
Stretch Lace Underwire Babydoll Available in Bands 36-46, Cups DD/E-K via ElilaI like a little support while I sleep, but my usual solution is to layer a Torrid bralette under a chemise. This babydoll by Elila is the only underwire piece I regularly sleep in and it’s honestly that comfortable. It’s fairly full coverage, but the sheer split skirt gives it some sex appeal as well. If you’re one of those people who crave the support of underwire 24/7, then give this a try.
Beach Babes Classic Shorty Set by Bedhead Pajamas:
I love novelty prints in pretty much any form, but this beachy illustrated print is both sweet and sophisticated. These are classic enough to be basic, but retain all the menswear inspired design details that make us love a fresh pair of traditional pajamas. Even better, they’re available in a huge range of sizes, so no one is left out.
Lace Bralette Babydoll by Torrid:
Lace Bralette Babydoll Available in Sizes 0 - 5 via TorridIf you like the insanely popular Torrid bralettes, this babydoll version is a smart purchase. It’s sexy, supportive and contains all the bralette features that people like. I also think this seafoam colorway is lovely and perfect for summer.
Freya Fancies Chemise:
Freya Fancies Chemise Available in 3 Colors, Sizes XS - L via FigleavesThese semi-sheer light slips are perfect for hot weather sleeping. They have enough support that you won’t fall out of them but provide a nice light layer and a cheerful pop of color. I own a bunch of them and have worn some to the point where they have fallen apart. They’re some of my favorite sleepwear.
Curtain Call Crop Sweatshirt and Track Pant in Pink by Between the Sheets:
Curtain Call Crop Sweatshirt and Track Pant Available in 7 Colors, Sizes S - L via Between the SheetsI’m not a huge sweatpants person, but I love this 70’s inspired track suit by Between the Sheets. Their pieces are like wearing clouds, with the bonus of being ethically made and sourced. They’re even B Corp certified now, which means you know they’re doing something right.
Unicorn Dress with Sparkly Unicorn Horn by Knickerocker:
Unicorn Dress with Sparkly Horn Available in Sizes S - XL via KnickerockerIt wouldn’t be one of my articles without something crazy included, so of course, I’m recommending a unicorn dress! I was so pleased to see Knickerocker come out with a complete unicorn themed range, including sleep dresses and bodysuits featuring unicorns with fluffy tails. For actual sleeping, I prefer this soft and easy-to-wear dress with fun details. It comes in standard sizing but also can be custom sized so that everyone can have a taste of unicorn goodness.
Sheer Linen Wrap with Flutter Sleeves and Linen Tap Pant by Sandmaiden Sleepwear:
Linen Wrap with Flutter Sleeves and Tap Pant Available in Multiple Colors Fits Sizes XS - XXL via Sandmaiden SleepwearThis retro influenced tap pant and wrap are made from beautifully light linen with metallic sparkles in it for the look of mica rock. Sizes are available up to XXL, but they can make to your measurements. I love this sophisticated look for lounging at home in the heat--along with Sandmaiden’s longtime commitment to natural fibers.
Core Built-Up Chemise by Tia Lyn:
Core Built-Up Chemise Available in 4 Colors Fits Sizes S - L, 1X - 3X via Tia LynI sleep in one of these at least once a week. I have both a blue and a black version from past seasons which have held up beautifully, despite a staggering number of times through the washer and dryer. They provide light support in larger cup sizes and look great. If you haven’t tried one yet, you should. They’re a great gateway into the Tia Lyn brand and all that it has to offer.
