Have you heard? Pajama dressing is a buzzing trend! No, I’m not talking about rolling up at the supermarket still in your dressing gown. I mean pajama sets that are so chic, it would almost be a crime to not show them off in public.
Pajamas can work for both daytime and fancy events. The key, of course, is choosing the right pajamas. Don’t want it to be obvious you’re stepping out in your nightwear? Then steer clear of the chequered flannel and cutesy teddy bear prints. Sheer fabrics and excessive lace can also end up looking more ‘boudoir’ than ‘bar.’
Fancy investing in some PJs you can wear to bed and out of the house? Here are 20 fashion-forward pajama sets to consider, for all budget levels.
For Day
Cotton cami sets can make for a great, casual-looking outfit. A more tailored, button-through style can even work in the office as an alternative to the traditional suit. Just make sure it’s crisply ironed. You don’t want to look like you slept in those PJs the night before!
For daywear, I also think that a neat, cropped leg is most natural to pull off. It looks more like it’s intended to be worn out and about than a longer trouser that will puddle on the ground and get dirty. Plus, loose, cropped trousers are on-trend right now anyway. Pair with platform sandals and a sun hat, and you’re all set for summer.

Heading out to a party? Leave the cotton PJs at home and opt for satin instead, which feels more polished. Suit-style, button-up pajamas in luxe fabrics such as silk or velvet are a particularly perfect partywear choice. If you’re worried a ‘relaxed’ fit on the top makes it look too much like loungewear, merely cinch it in with a belt. Or leave it open blazer-style and wear another top below.
Full-length bottoms work better here than they do as daywear. But they look a whole lot less pajama-like if you pair them with some killer heels. A neat, definitely-not-bed-hair hairstyle helps too.

I hope this post has given you some ideas for multi-functional pajamas, as well as how to style them. But really, the only thing you need to make PJs-as-outerwear work is a rockin’ attitude. If your confident smile says “yep, I meant to put this on,” no one’s going to wonder if you forgot to get dressed that morning!
What are your thoughts on pajama sets as outerwear? Have you dared to try the trend? And what’s your favorite look from the list above?
