For far too long, lingerie companies have adopted a one-color-fits-all mentality.

The nude molded cup bra is the most popular style in America. Meant to blend with the skin and disappear under clothes, the standard nude color only works with the fairest of skin tones. This "nude" is beige. Using the term to describe a skin color is as outdated as "flesh" colored crayons.

Thankfully, a few lingerie companies are taking note, expanding their color palettes and moving away from the offensive nude terminology (though they continue to default to fair-skinned women in photography which is disappointing). This new crop of neutrals includes caramels, toffees, hazelnuts, and mochas that look as yummy as they sound. Much richer than their beige counterparts, these bras work for both the lighter and darker ends of the skin spectrum.

When looking for a great neutral bra that will complement your skin tone, look not only at the shade but the undertones. A warm honey color may work better than a cool taupe of the same shade. To avoid any ashy tendencies, try on several colors to see which makes your skin glow. Also, if you're having trouble finding an exact match, go for a shade that is slightly darker which will camouflage better under light clothing.
