Plagued with underwires that dig into your rib cage or gouge under your armpit? You might consider ditching those bras for a wire-free style.
I know, you probably think that a wireless bra only works for women with small boobs. With recent advances in fabrication and design, it's easier than ever to find a wireless bra that shapes and supports, no matter your cup size. (Full bust ladies, I'm talking to you!)
Comfort is key with wireless styles. For those of you that are petite, you may find that underwire styles feel like a cage. If you also have larger breasts for your frame, this restriction will seem downright painful. Same goes for women who have undergone reconstructive surgery or had breast implants, where a wire is not only uncomfortable, it is less necessary for support and shaping. Wireless bras will provide just the right amount of support without compromising comfort.
It is true that underwire bras are great to provide a particular shape and solution to your favorite fashions. But sometimes a more natural shape is desired. Underwires will contain the breast tissue, and form the foundation for a particular cup shape. A wireless bra, on the other hand, relies on your natural shape to create the cup's shape. It creates a softer look. If you find you're more of a t-shirt than fitted fashions kind of gal, then a wireless bra may be a comfortable and attractive option for you.
Most women think that a wireless bra won't be as uplifting. This is partially correct, especially for those of us with larger busts. Without a wire, a bra's bridge (that center panel that should ideally "tack" to the breast bone) will pull away from the chest, causing strain on the band and compromising support. If you have close-set breasts, you don't need much of a bridge, so a wireless bra is an excellent option. If you're full-busted, look for styles that have a taller center front to help with breast containment and to provide more strength and stability to the frame and the band. After all, it is the band that supports your breasts!
Many wireless bra styles come in smooth, seamless t-shirt looks. This molded cup technology helps with breast containment and will sometimes add volume. Other brands utilize rigid fabrics such as lace, with darts or center seams for shaping. A few will even use layered fabrics, such as stretch lace over meshes, where cup compression contributes to support.
Whether you're an A cup or a K cup, there's a great wireless bra option for you! The key is being fearless and trying multiple styles until you find one that shapes and supports your unique breasts. Once you find the style that works for you, it will be hard to go back to those poking, digging wires again. (Full disclosure: this post contains affiliate links.)
