It's been a few years since I put together a list of ways to recycle bras. Since that time, more brands and non-profits have begun to offer this service to consumers. And many of the retailers and charities that solicit gently worn bras also benefit women in need.

If you haven't read my first post, you can find it here.  It lists both small and large organizations willing to take donations. Many have drop-off locations or will send you a mail-in label to use. In most cases, you're helping other women, too. And best case scenario, you're doing something to keep all those wires and padding out of landfills.

I Support The Girls

You might have recently read about the founder of I Support the Girls, Dana Marlowe, thanks to her efforts to provide women and girls with bras and hygiene products during the latest government shutdown. But Ms. Marlowe started this non-profit back in 2015. Since that time, the organization has distributed more than 500,000 bras and 2.5 million personal hygiene products to women experiencing homelessness or in need. You can visit the website and learn more about where to donate your gently used bras.

Donate Your Bras

This non-profit aims to support women going through treatment for breast cancer. The charity got its start when one father was looking for a way to help others after his three daughters had mastectomies after their BRCA 1 positive diagnoses. Not only do they accept used bras, but they also take items like wigs, prostheses, and various other forms of lingerie such as camisoles, swimwear, and nightgowns.

Be a Dear and Donate a Brassiere

Located in the San Francisco/Bay Area, Be a Dear takes donations both via mail and in person at several locations. This charity benefits homeless and at-risk women.

Journelle

Journelle is one of a growing number of bra retailers that holds an annual bra drive. Theirs benefits Free the Girls; a non-profit helping women find employment through the sale of used bras. You can drop off your donations at any of their New York locations.

Women's Shelters or Local Lingerie Retailers

You can always donate your gently worn bras or other lingerie to a local women's shelter. It's easy enough to do a search for one in your area and give them a call to find out their donation policies. There are also plenty of local lingerie stores that participate in donation programs. Find out if your local lingerie store holds a bra drive, and drop off what no longer fits while getting replacements at the same time!
